Graduation is right around the corner and with it comes graduation parties, and of course, graduation thank you cards. It’s a hectic and exciting time of year for high school seniors and their parents. From the perfect cake to the party decorations to the guest list, everything has to be perfect for the big day. But what about after the party? After the gifts are unwrapped, and the well wishes from friends and family have been had, the next step is sending the perfect thank you card. We’ve compiled a list of 4 need to know tips for writing the few of our expert tips on writing the perfect graduation thank you cards.

1. Be Specific When Writing Graduation Thank You Cards

Your friends and family spend the time, effort, and money to get you that perfect gift (or, even better, an envelope full of cash!). Thank them for their efforts by acknowledging what gift they gave and how thankful you are that they thought of you on your big day. This will show them that their gift made an impact on you.

PRO TIP: When opening your graduation presents and cards, remember to keep a list of who gave what so you can thank your friends and family personally!

2. Tell Them Why You Love It

Everyone wants to hear that the gift that they gave was the best. That’s why it’s important to mention how you plan on using the gift.  For example, your Aunt Carrie gave you $100. You can thank her and mention that it will be a lifesaver when it comes time to buying textbooks or decorating your dorm.

A good rule of thumb for writing graduation thank cards is that the more personal or thought-out the gift, the more you’ll want to make them feel special in return. This saves you from having to gush over an empty card from your second-cousin, while letting your grandma know that you adore the hand-quilted blanket she made you.

3. Take Lots of Breaks

In the moment, it feels nice to have 200 people rallied around you to celebrate, however, when it comes time to write out graduation thank you cards, it can feel a little daunting. Don’t stress, make sure to take plenty of breaks, and enlist the help of family members for the easy things like sealing envelopes or placing stamps. Taking little breaks can help you to rejuvenate and will help you to continue writing the perfect graduation thank you cards!

Pro Tip: Even the quality of pens can make a difference. My favorite pen for writing graduation cards is this one, which you can easily get from Amazon. It glides, won’t smudge, and is easy on your hand.

4. Send Them ASAP!

Your graduation thank you cards should be sent out as soon as possible. Within one month is generally acceptable, but sending the cards out around 2-3 weeks after receiving the gifts is better.
